“One of the main functions of the World Bank is to work for the development of any
state in collaboration with private institutions with the support of the government,
and I will definitely extend whatever possible course of help that is essential
for developing and upgrading CIMP.”
CIMP welcomed its guest, Mr. Sanjay Pradhan,
Vice President of the World Bank Institute , Washington D.C. Dr. V.Mukunda Das said
that it was a moment of honour and pride to have him as a guest at CIMP. The Director
presented a memento to the guest.
While interacting with the students, Mr. Pradhan said "Institutes like CIMP are
of great importance to Bihar as they produce trained leaders who are required for
the development of Bihar and India as a whole. He added that he is really inspired
by the hard work and vision of Dr. V. MukundaDas, Director of the Institute, who
has been incessantly working for the Institute and is responsible for upgrading
it to a level of high perfection in a very short span of time".
Mr. Pradhan spoke at length about hard work and discipline which are the key-words
for success.

CIMP welcomed its esteemed guest Mr. Dilip
Sinha, IFS, Indian Ambassador to Greece. Addressing a seminar on “European Union-Emerging
Scenario-Indian Context”, Mr Sinha said that EU plays a vital role for India in the
context of business. He informed the students that EU has 27 member states and has
grown up to its present stature from grassroots level after World-War II. He stressed
on the fact that India needs to maintain a good relation with European Union as
it is India’s largest trading partner and high technology collaborator.

“Lets do It Now”
CIMP organised a seminar on “Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Ltd.: A success
story". The seminar was addressed by Mr. Pratayaya Amrit (IAS), Chairman of Bihar
Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Ltd. He started his career as a lecturer and then he became
an IAS officer, 1991 Batch. He worked as the District Magistrate of Jehanabad, Katihar
and Chapra. He also worked with the Civil Aviation Ministry and Food Processing Ministry
from 2001 to 2006 .
While interacting with the students he emphasised on individual development but
emphatically stressed on the fact that one should always give back to one’s home
state and nation.He shared his strategy of making an organisation a success and
pointed out that team-spirit and feeling of 'WE' is very essential. Director Dr. V.
MukundaDas requested the guest that the students of CIMP have been highly inspired by the success of BRPNNL and would like to prepare a case-study on the organisation.

CIMP students had an interactive session with Dr. Vyuptkesh Sharan.Addressing a
seminar on “The Present Exchange Rate Scenario in India”, Dr. Vyuptakesh Sharan,
Emeritus Fellow, South Asian Studies Division, School of International Studies,
JNU, New Delhi, said that for centuries, the currencies
of the world were backed by gold. That is, a piece of paper currency issued by any
world government represented a real amount of gold held in a vault by the then government.
In the 1930s, U.S. set the value of the dollar at a single, unchanging level:
1 ounce of gold was worth $35. After World War II, other countries based the value
of their currencies on the U.S. dollar.

Ms. N. Vijayalakshmi, IAS (Bihar cadre), currently the Commissioner, Excise & Inspector
General, Govt. of Bihar, addressed a seminar on Structure of an Organisation. Speaking to the students
of CIMP, Vijayalakshmi explained that structure of any business would act as
the backbone and support concerning decision making and other processes. Ms. Vijayalakshmi
said that it is very important for future managers and entrepreneurs to understand
the importance of an efficient organisational structure.

Addressing a seminar on “IT FOR INCLUSIVE GROWTH IN INDIA”, Mr. Shivaji said “India's IT growth in the world is primarily dominated by IT software and services
such as Custom Application Development and Maintenance (CADM), System Integration,
IT Consulting, Application Management, Infrastructure Management Services, Software
testing, Service-oriented architecture and Web services.” He added that IT is bridging
the gap between urban and rural areas and the internet gets the credit for that.
He said that it is information technology that unites a family now-a-days.

CIMP welcomed its esteemed guest Dr.S.C.Jha, Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister, India.
Mr. Jha is also the Chairman of Special Task Force designed for the development
of Bihar. Mr. Jha served as the Chief Economist at Asian Development Bank. He spoke
at length on global financial crisis and its impact on India. He suggested various
measures which should be taken in future to avoid such a crisis. Mr. Jha dealt with
various fundamental issues regarding food and oil crisis which according to him
used to be locational in nature and impact earlier, but these days in the era of
globalisation, it has become global. Mr. Jha cited various reasons behind the continuous
fall of the stock market. Huge fluctuation in the value of rupee against dollar
and in oil prices around the whole world that has arisen due to the continuously increasing
demand for crude oil, especially, in developing countries.

CIMP welcomed its guest Mr. Romy Sahay, GM, ITC InfoTech India Ltd, with an experience
of 15 years in the industry, for an interactive session with the students of CIMP.
Mr.Sahay, with his long experience in the industry, spoke on the topic
“Mobility and staffing challenges – Issues in sustaining people’s quality” and said
that one of the most critical organizational capabilities is learning to adapt
to the new hypercompetitive global landscape. The capabilities needed in this evolving
competitive context are increasingly employee centric, particularly when related
to those employees who are performing knowledge-based teamwork in structures like
global virtual teams or (GVTs).

CIMP organised a seminar on “Value Chain Analysis”. Invited Guest-Lecture was Mr. Abhay Kumar Sinha, Senior
Vice President of 3i InfoTech ltd, South Asia operations.
Speaking to the students, Mr Sinha explained that value chain, a concept from business
management, was popularized by Michael Porter in 1985. He said that value chain
is a chain of activities, where products pass through all activities of the chain
in order, and with each activity the product gains some value. He added that
it is an integral part of any production concern.

CIMP organised a seminar on “Food Certification in India”. The Invited Guest-Lecture
was Dr. Devesh Roy,Economist, International Food Policy Research Institute, Washington,
D.C. Mr. Roy shared his experiences with the students. He said that eighty percent
of the water used for irrigating food-crops and vegetables in India is contaminated
due to indiscriminate use of fertilisers and pesticides in agricultural practices.

CIMP conducted its first seminar on August 28th, 2008. The speaker was Dr. Prachi Mishra, Economist,
International Monetary Fund, Washington D.C. She has a Masters in Economics from
Delhi School of Economics and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, New York.
She is also a recipient of the prestigious Exim Bank of India award for the best
Ph.D. dissertation in the area of international economics. The seminar began with a few words of wisdom by Dr. V. Mukunda Das, Director, CIMP.
In his introductory speech he said that it was a great opportunity for the students of CIMP to have a guest of Dr.
Mishra's stature and her lecture would be an eye opener for the students of
the Institute in the area of international economics. Dr. Mishra started off by expressing
her views on the current scenario of custom duties and tax and custom evasion in
India. She said that the main purpose of the study was to highlight the advantage of reduction
in tariff, which has decreased the percentage of custom evasion, ultimately decreasing the percentage of smuggling.
